Hi George thanks for your time. Can we start off with just a quick introduction and a bit about yourself for the readers, please?

First, I’d like to thank you for featuring myself and my work, it’s quite an honor for me.  I’m a 23 year old digital painter currently doing freelance work.  I currently reside in Long Island City, NY.

How did you get started in design and how long have you been doing it for?

I’ve been an artist since I was a child, and it was only a couple of years ago that I decided to make a full time profession being a freelancer.  I switched to digital art almost a decade ago, and I’m very happy with that choice, as there are tons of advantages working digitally as opposed to traditional canvas.  I’ve been doing this professionally for over five years and I plan to continue doing so for the rest of my life.

Where do all your ideas and inspirations come from? And why do you love creating them?

My ideas and inspirations have no limitations; They can come from movies, music, or something completely spontaneous.  In fact, most times ideas just come out of nowhere without much explanation and this is a very exciting time for me, as I’m inspired to get it on paper.
I love creating them because it’s a great way for me to express myself; Every painting I do always includes part of me, and I’m more than happy to show that to the world.  It’s also a great feeling to illustrate something that you envisioned in your head.

We are very interested to know what type of graphic software do you use?

All my work is painted digitally with Adobe Photoshop and a Wacom Intuos 3 tablet.  Having a tablet is essential if you’re serious about digital painting, so I recommend anyone interested in this field to get one.

Do you use any special techniques and tools, or is it mainly the mouse doing all the work?

I never use a mouse for painting – it should be avoided at all costs IMO. It’s not worth your time creating something with a mouse – it’ll take 50 times longer, and the results won’t look anywhere near as good as if you would get using a tablet.  There’s just no comparison.

As we can see in your blog, you done a lot of Speedpaint, has this helped you to refine your technique?

Most definitely.  I took a job last year that required me to paint every day for at least an hour, and I’m very glad I did – my technique improved ridiculously, and all it took was for me to draw and paint daily, which I didn’t have much of a problem with.  I always encourage artists to paint daily for at least an hour – it makes a huge, huge difference.

Of all of your artwork, which piece is your personal favorite and why?

Without a doubt, it would be ‘Save Us’;  I went through a very dark time last year, and I wanted to take that and do something creative with it, so it is a self portrait in a way.  The theme of  the statue crying blood was something I’ve always wanted to paint, and I thought it was quite fitting for ‘Save Us’. It came out much like I envisioned it, which doesn’t usually happen I admit.

What is one piece of advice you would give to any artist looking to improve their technique, any special tip for good painting?

Draw and paint every single day.

Are you working on any projects currently and what projects can we expect from you in the future?

I’m currently doing work for a video game publisher, and I’m very happy with the results.  A lot of that works involves environment work, which I haven’t done much to be honest, so I view that in itself as a challenge as well, a challenge I’m more than happy to tackle.  In addition to that, I’ll be working on expanding my portfolio on the side as well.

What are your hobbies and please describe your free time, if you have any?

Drawing and painting are my main hobbies.  Free time doesn’t come much for me these days, but when it does, I make sure to spend time with close friends and relatives.  As much as I might not like it, work does indeed take a lot of my time, so I value free time more and more as a result of that.

And for the last question How would you like to see your career evolve in the next few years?
I’d like to do more illustrations for books and magazines, as well as continue to expand my own portfolio.  I’d also like to achieve a more dynamic look with my pieces as well, so I’m studying and working hard to make that happen.
